Bereavement Burrow is a safe space to learn about grief.
My mission to increase understanding of grief by providing interactive educational workshops.
When a friend or colleague experiences the death of a loved one most people want to help and support them but as a society we don't teach people how to do this. Most of us feel uncomfortable talking about death so we do or say the wrong thing when all we want is make things better.
Because of this, bereavement costs employers money through lack of productivity, time taken off work and staff leaving when they feel unsupported.
Staff who feel heard and supported will be more productive and more likely to stay in the job.
Participating in these workshops enables you to provide better care for your team alongside increased productivity through better handling of colleague bereavement.

Grief support workshops make financial sense for your organisation
Bereavement in the workplace cost the UK economy £25 billion each year ....The majority of the economic cost arises from lost productivity in the workplace (presenteeism), rather than from time away from work.
Hospice UK report that 56% of people would consider leaving their employer if they didn’t provide proper bereavement support.'

Between Autumn 2021 and March 2022, the UK Commission on Bereavement heard from thousands of bereaved individuals, as well as organisations and professionals working with bereaved people, on experiences of bereavement and the support needs of bereaved people.

The report was published in 2022 entitled 'Bereavement is Everyone's Business'

One key finding was 'a third of adult respondents said they were not at all supported or only a little bit supported by their employer'

About me
Qualified and experienced trainer with lived experience of grief and experience of providing grief support.
Hi, I'm Heather and I understand how devastating it is to lose that special person.

I have a background in education and started working providing support within the charity sector back in 2016.
At that time I had attended training on bereavement support and I thought I understood about grief.

It was only after my husband and mum died within weeks of each other in 2022 that I realised I had totally underestimated the huge impact of grief.
In September 2023 I started delivering interactive grief workshops focused on supporting colleagues who are experiencing bereavement.

I also volunteer by hosting virtual support groups for those who are grieving and helping to recruit new volunteers.

My training is different as it is gentle, interactive and practical.

Testimonials
The training was incredibly helpful, not just in awareness about grief in the workplace, but also about specific hints, tips, dos and donts, especially as not everyone knows exactly what to say or do when someone close to someone at work has passed away. It was a safe space to share experiences and talk openly, ask questions, etc, and that's so important with such a sensitive topic. Thank you!
